Edelbrock 600 part #1405 carburetor review

The Edelbrock part #1405 carburetor is manufacture by Edelbrock, so it is of good quality with no jetting changes needed to run gasohol or any fuel with high alcohol content such as E85 (if you get the right side draft design).

The carburetor uses metering rods that transition between circuits instead of stepped primaries and secondaries, meaning that the transition will be smoother and not as drastic for a more consistent idle.

The carburetor is made of aluminum so it won’t rust/ rot from leaky fuel bowls.

However, the are some drawbacks for the Edelbrock part #1405 cause it is a 4 barrel which means higher fuel consumption. If you are looking for something more efficient consider a spread bore 2 barrel.

In addition, It is a side draft carb, so you will need to be very careful on oiling it and making sure the fuel bowl doesn’t leak.

Basically, this carburetor requires rejetting on most applications if you want to reduce/eliminate backfiring and flattening out of a lower RPM range.

Just from looking at the specs, it is clear that the Edelbrock part#1405 carburetor is an upgrade from a 2 barrel carburetor.

Autolite 2 barrel carburetor review

The Ford 2 barrel carburetor is a popular choice for many car enthusiasts and modifiers. It can be purchased from an auto parts store or online auction site, such as eBay. In this review, I will cover the pros and cons of the Autolite 2 barrel to help you make a decision on whether it’s right for your 29 mustang project.

The Autolite 2 barrel carburetor holds several advantages:

Ease of tuning – many people find the Autolite 2 barrel much simpler to tune. This is mainly due to the Autolite’s fixed air bleed design, but it can also be attributed to its smaller throttle plate and lack of an accelerator pump.

Because the throttle plate is smaller, there is a much smaller range of airflow. This makes it easier to determine the best idle and cruise settings.

Ease of Installation – The Autolite 2 barrel carburetor has a great deal of flexibility when it comes to installation.

Because there are no accelerator pumps or booster circuits, you can install this without an external fuel pump on most cars. Most come with an electric pump, but it is very easy to bypass and hook up a mechanical fuel pump.

Simplicity – Because the Autolite 2 barrel has such a small range of airflow, it makes it much easier to understand and work with.

Reliability – The Autolite 2 barrel carburetor is very reliable and generally lasts longer due to its lack of some of the extra components (such as booster circuits).

There are some drawbacks for the Autolite 2 Barrel Carburetor:

Fuel Economy – One downside to the Autolite 2 barrel carburetor is that it can sometimes decrease your fuel economy. This is mainly due to its rich beginning acceleration, which usually results in burning more fuel than necessary.

Limited tuning range – One downside of the Autolite 2 barrel carburetor is its smaller throttle plate. This can make tuning difficult if you are trying to fine tune the acceleration of your vehicle, as it has a very small range.

Heat soak – Because the Autolite 2 barrel does not have an accelerator pump or booster circuit, it can suffer from heat soak. This means that when driving in hot weather, the throttle plate can heat up and become very difficult to tune.

You will usually need a hotter set of jets or a different air bleeder to compensate for the heat.

Holley 4160 600 cfm carburetor review

Introduced in 1970s, it’s still the go-to carburetor for anyone building a performance engine.

The Holley 4160 comes with vacuum secondaries and is great for street applications. The vacuum secondaries make it great for heavier-weight vehicles, low- and mid-rpm performance, and automatic transmissions. It’s a billet-aluminum carburetor with dual feed fuel inlets and an electric choke.

The Holley 4160 was designed for the street and is still appropriate for many modern vehicles. With high-flow velocity stacks and larger venturis, it can deliver ample horsepower and torque, while operating smoothly at part throttle.

It is great for heavy and light vehicles. The 4160 works well with low- and mid-rpm power applications, as well as automatic transmissions since it has vacuum secondaries that allow you to go into a cruise mode at lower rpm levels.

The Holley 4160 is made out of billet aluminum and comes equipped with an electric choke. It also has dual feed fuel inlets and the larger venturis deliver ample horsepower and torque while operating smoothly at part throttle.

At a weight of 10 pounds, it is not too heavy for installation on almost any engine. Since the 4160 operates smoothly from lower rpm levels up to 7000 rpm, there should be no problem when installing it on a street-driven vehicle.

There are some disadvantages of the Holley 4160 carburetor.

First, the carburetor has a tendency to have problems with flooding. This may or may not cause serious damage to the engine that it is being used in.

Second, these carburetors can be difficult to tune and require a lot of tuning adjustments before a vehicle will run properly.
